Public reading by the original poet of the Chicano Movement, Alurista, author of many books and co- founder of the Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán (MEChA) chapter at SDSU, and helped to establish the Chicano Studies program there two years later. In 1969, he attended the First National Chicano Youth Liberation Conference in Denver and read a poem that became the preamble to the Plan Espiritual de Aztlán, the political manifesto of the Chicano Movement. The Fisher Poets Gathering in downtown Astoria is scheduled the last weekend of February.
